Some older guides still say you need 5,000 followers to join. The current US pages say 1,000T1T2. Other markets have their own pages and their own ID rules, and this guide covers the US only.
Bottom line: in the US, 1,000 followers and a clean account are enough to apply.
Which creator type should you apply as if you have under 1,000 followers?
Most creators apply as an affiliate creator, which needs 1,000 followers, and creators under that number can still sell if a seller binds their account to its shopT1. TikTok describes three creator typesT2.

The 5,000 number you see in videos is the point where the affiliate pilot ends, and the point where a marketing account can sell other brandsT1T2. Videos that promise a start with 0 followers usually mean the seller bind route.
Bottom line: under 1,000 followers, a seller bind is the way in.
How to become a TikTok Shop affiliate in the app: what are the steps?
You apply from your TikTok profile in a few taps, then confirm your age and verify your IDT1.
- Open your profile and tap TikTok StudioT1.
- Under Monetization, tap TikTok Shop for Creator, then Join nowT1.
- Confirm your age within 2 months of registering. You get up to 15 attempts in total. In-app recognition allows 3, card authorization allows 6, and uploading a photo of your ID plus live selfies allows 6T1.
- Verify your identity with your full name, date of birth, address and the front and back of a US driver’s license, a US state ID or a passport. You get up to 10 attempts, and you can appeal if it failsT1.
- Set up your commission account when TikTok asks for itT1.
TikTok’s Creator Eligibility Policy says you will be asked to verify your age and identity after you applyT2, and both TikTok pages say the ID documents may be requested after you earn your first commissionT1T2. Expect it at either point. One ID can verify up to 5 creator accountsT1.
Bottom line: the application takes minutes, and the checks after it decide whether you can withdraw your commissions.
What limits apply during your first 30 days?
Affiliate creators under 5,000 followers start in a pilot program for at least 30 days, with posting limits, products only from shops scoring 95% or higher, and no campaignsT2.
The Creator Eligibility Policy sets the pilot limit at up to 3 shoppable videos a day and 3 shoppable LIVEs a weekT2. Creators in the extended pilot get 3 shoppable videos and 1 shoppable LIVE a weekT2. The FAQ on TikTok’s creator guide says creators under 5,000 followers can post up to 5 shoppable videos a week, with the quota reset every MondayT1. The two pages do not match. Check your own quota under Creator Center, Settings, Creator Pilot ProgramT1.
You leave the pilot when you have at least 5,000 followers and at least 30 days in the programT2. TikTok may lift some limits early if you pass the pilot quiz, keep at least 176 Creator Health Rating points, and meet one of these goalsT1T2:
- 6 or more shoppable videos, each at least 8 seconds long
- 1 LIVE of at least 5 minutes that promotes TikTok Shop products
- 10 orders through your shoppable content in the past 30 days
A simple first month could look like this. In week 1, take the quiz and pick five products. Over weeks 1 and 2, post six shoppable videos of 8 seconds or more. In week 3, run one LIVE of at least 5 minutes. In week 4, look at which product drove your orders and drop the ones that did not sell.
All US accounts also have a cap of 30 shoppable short videos and 60 shoppable photo posts a day, in effect since May 11, 2026T2.
Bottom line: plan your first month around the quota so you do not waste a post.
How do you pick your first products to promote?
Pick products that already sell, pay a commission you are happy with, and do not yet have thousands of creators on them. During the pilot you only see products from shops with a Shop Performance Score of 95% or higher, so the pool is already filteredT2.

Here is how to read it. Toplux Magnesium Complex pays 25% on an average price of $17.43, about $4.36 a sale, and 19,331 creators have already linked itF3. The KKPeople Easy-Off Bodysuit pays 15% on $26.01, about $3.90 a sale, with 2,711 creatorsF3. The bodysuit pays a little less per sale and has far fewer creators competing for the same buyers. The Bare Anatomy spray pack pays the most per sale on the list, about $5.34F3.

What kind of videos sell for new TikTok Shop affiliates?
Short demos that show the product working in the first few seconds are the easiest place to start, and the fastest way to learn the pattern is to study videos that already sell the product.

How and when do TikTok Shop affiliates get paid?
Commissions are typically paid on the 15th day after the order is deliveredT3. If the seller’s settlement period is longer, such as 31 days after delivery, your payout waits for it, and a dispute, refund or return delays payout until it is resolvedT3. TikTok has used this timing since April 15, 2025T3.
TikTok works out your commission as the sale amount minus refunds, times the commission rateT3. A canceled or fully refunded order earns nothingT3. If you remove a product from your showcase, you lose the commission rate that was locked for youT4. You can follow each order on the affiliate orders page, where statuses include Pending, Settled, Not eligible and FrozenT3.

Bottom line: plan on cash arriving usually about two weeks after delivery, and longer if the seller settles late or a return is open.
What can cost you TikTok Shop affiliate access?
Breaking TikTok Shop policies can cost you features, commissions or the account itself, and TikTok tracks this with your Creator Health RatingT2. Risks TikTok names include prohibited products or claims, edits that hide content, and posting content that was already removedT1.
TikTok says it reviews creator accounts for compliance and can take enforcement action on accounts that break its rulesT2. A low health rating also blocks TikTok from lifting pilot limits early, since that needs at least 176 Creator Health Rating pointsT1T2.
Bottom line: protect your health rating as closely as your follower count.
